We are overjoyed to share a proud moment with you all!
Our Managing Director, Ms. Amrita Sabat, represented Odisha on the national stage of Kaun Banega Crorepati (Season 17, Episode 4) and won an impressive ₹12.5 lakh, sitting on the hot seat in front of the legendary Shri Amitabh Bachchan.
This achievement is not just about answering questions; it is about carrying the voice of Odisha, its culture, and its people to millions across the country and the world.
A Voice for Odisha’s Weavers, Artisans, Handicrafts and Handlooms
As the world’s first Odisha GI (Geographical Indications) store, Utkalamrita has always been about more than just handlooms and handicrafts; it is about telling the stories of our artisans, our traditions, and our identity. On the KBC stage, Amrita beautifully highlighted Odisha’s Sambalpuri Ikat, Bomkai, Pipli Applique, Konark Stone Carving and other timeless weaves and crafts, ensuring millions of viewers understood the cultural pride and craftsmanship behind every piece.
Adding to the pride, the short video “Odisha ki Kala,” created by the KBC team, captured the soul of Odisha’s art and craftsmanship. This touching feature reached millions of hearts across the world, further amplifying the beauty and importance of Odisha’s heritage. (Click here to watch the video)
At Utkalamrita, we have always believed that handlooms are more than just fabrics; they are the soul of Odisha. On the KBC stage, Amrita proudly spoke about our rich weaving traditions and the tireless efforts of our weavers who keep this heritage alive.
From Sambalpuri Ikat to Bomkai silks, she highlighted the craftsmanship, sustainability, and cultural pride that handlooms bring into our lives. By doing so, she reminded the nation that supporting handlooms is not just a fashion choice, but a movement to preserve identity and empower rural communities.
This moment belongs to every artisan, customer, and supporter of Utkalamrita. With your love and encouragement, we are not just selling handlooms and crafts, we are preserving legacies, empowering artisans communities, and showcasing Odisha’s pride on a global stage.
A Moment of Inspiration
Winning ₹12.5 lakh is a remarkable milestone, but for us at Utkalamrita, the bigger victory lies in the platform it created to showcase Odisha’s cultural legacy. Amrita also presented a Pattachitra of Boitabandaana, crafted by National Awardee Sri Jitendra Parida, along with the sacred Mahaprabhu Jagannath Special Prasad Khaja as gifts to the KBC team.
Amrita’s journey is an inspiration for entrepreneurs, women leaders, and everyone who believes in weaving tradition with modernity. Amrita’s father, CA A.K. Sabat, beautifully shared the divine connection between Odisha’s Ratha Jatra and KBC, reminding all that the very first episode of KBC aired on 3rd July 2000, which was a Ratha Jatra day.
