Margasira Gurubar
Odias celebrate "Margasira Gurubara" - or praying to Goddess Mahalakshmi on every Thursday of Margasira month, with elaborate rituals. The beautiful story behind this is written by Balaram Das in 15th century in his book "Lakhmi Purana".
Goddess Mahalakshmi visits various homes on every Thursday of Margasira month. To welcome her, homes are kept clean, jhoti chita (alpana using rice paste liquid) is done, various pithas & food items are cooked & Puja is done!
Women wear white red combination mostly, apart from any other color combo not having black in it & read the Lakhmi Purana with doing rituals as given therein. Here is a collection dedicated to such color combos - Margasira Gurubara!
