Odisha is the land of stunning stone sculptures. Stone craftsmen here have carved awesome sculptures since time immemorial. This is seen in the glorious Kalingan architecture of our temples, superb Buddhist heritage sites and also as individual sculptures which are revered around the world.
The famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Konark Sun Temple is called ‘Poetry in Stone’. No doubt.
Various temples in Bhubaneswar and across Odisha boast of beautiful stone work.
Even Odisha’s centuries old Buddhist heritage sites of Lalitgiri, Udaygiri, Puspagiri, Ratnagiri, Langudi and lots more have stunning stone sculpture.
More sculptures are being excavated everyday- proof of the fact that Kalinga or Odisha has been a thriving Buddhist centre from which Buddhism spread far and wide thanks to her brave sailors, kings and people. Even Chandasoka – the evil Asoka, transformed into Dharmasoka or Asoka the Great after the Kalinga War and was the biggest proponent of Buddhism after that. Same is also in Odisha government logo! Awesomeness personified are our stone craftsmen, working with such detailing and producing masterpieces. Same is also in Odisha government logo! On the way from Bhubaneswar to Puri, one can see thousands of sculpture making units with awesome stone sculptures. Unbelievable sight they present. Our Director tweeted thus:
Even in our office, our brand name fascia has the Konark Wheel symbol in it, depicting the timeless stone sculpture heritage of Odisha along with the symbolism associated with it- progress and prosperity.
