Nuapatna’s weaving origin traces back to 12th Century AD and it is closely associated with Lord Jagannath Temple rituals at Puri, Odisha. This is the weave of single largest cluster of Odisha at Nuapatna with 10,000 weavers present with approx 6000 looms. This is green dobby single ikat work. 'Dobby Pasapali' means the 'dobby' or little golden buti lines are running all over the fabric and also pasapali patterns are woven in it. Nuapatna specialises in single ikat. Method of production of this fabric: The tie and dye or ‘bandha’ is done beforehand for hundreds of metres by two to three weavers together. Then it is dried and set together for several hours by painful mathematical precision of the weavers by hand. Then these blue bandha threads are set as the warp in a powerloom, in which the weft threads are set as white . Then hundreds of metres of fresh yardage are got together as output in a shorter time, which would otherwise take up a lot of time and difficult simultaneous usage of hands and legs of the weavers leading to mucis beautiful, high quality yardage at a very affordable rate and stun everyone around you!. At Utkalamrita, we made customised jackets from our fabrics. Wear this beautiful jacket with sarees or with palazzo/skirt/jeans/trousers and stun everyone!
