Phuta/Phoda Phuta check sarees are handwoven with thick low count cotton in Mayurbhanj district. The Santhal tribals forming a vast chunk of Odisha's tribal population, wear these check sarees. The organic cotton feels warm in winter and cool in summer. Various tribal motifs are embroidered into these sarees like arrow, duck, child, man, shield, flower, deer etc., as the tribals live closely with Nature. To weave a single saree, it takes about three days. This is a Santhal ladies pant.
