Nuapatna’s weaving origin traces back to 12th Century AD and it is closely associated with Lord Jagannath Temple rituals at Puri, Odisha. This is the weave of single largest cluster of Odisha at Nuapatna with 10,000 weavers present with approx 6000 looms. This is white with black single ikat work. Nuapatna specialises in single ikat. Method of production of this fabric: The tie and dye or 'bandha' is done beforehand for hundreds of metres by two to three weavers together. Then it is dried and set together for several hours by painful mathematical precision of the weavers by hand. Then these bandha threads are set as the warp in a powerloom, in which the weft threads are set as plain white. Then hundreds of metres of fresh yardage are got together as output in a shorter time, which would otherwise take up a lot of time and difficult simultaneous usage of hands and legs of the weavers leading to much higher cost of the same fabric, making it unaffordable to the larger handloom-loving masses. So go for this beautiful, high quality yardage at a very affordable rate and stun everyone around you!
